LUCAS is 6th months old!!

Lucas is growing uo so fast!! Its hard to believe. AT his 5 month check he was 22 pounds!!!!! He has lost all that dark hair he was born with, but his new hair has already started to com in in even file. We think we is very very handsome :-)
He is very interested in everything around him. Somethimes it seems as though he can talk. He watches Liam and laughs and laughs. He loves his big brother. AND Liam is a big lover. Lucas receives many Liam kisses througout the day. Lucas is very focused and attentive to new toys. He investigates them as though conducting a science experiment. We are loving every moment with him.. even the ones in the wee hours of the night :-)

We hope you are doing well and that we'll see you soon. We are missing our familiy and friends these days.

Liam had a head start!

Three months have gone so fast! Lucas is growing up quickly, as is Liam who seems older and more mature each day. Lucas is a very happy baby. He is a big smiler. He loves to play with his hanging toys and watch things around him. He is very responsive with coos and laughter. His big brown eyes radiate joy. Lucas is looking more and more like his papa. We get comments from everyone that sees them both. They even have the same hair style :-) Lucas also loves the pool. He totally floats! Its pretty hot here in SC so the water is very warm and I'm sure very soothing for him.
Liam is also becoming a good little swimmer. With his floatation bathing suit he kicks and paddles with his arms to get around. He is having a great summer playing in the pool, with his play group friends, at the YMCA, and the beach. Liam is also gave up his diaper this past week. He is doing very well peeing and pooing in the big boy toilet. Yipeee!
We are having a lot of fun with both boys. We are looking forward to sharing them with family and friends in NH in a couple weeks and with Abuelos and prima Sofia when they come to visit in August.

Lucas 2 Months!!

Lucas is 2 months today (6/14/09) He is growing so fast! It seems he has been in our lives for a long time, yet its only been a QUICK 2 months. He is a beautiful little boy. He coos, smiles, and watches everything around him. I also think he laughed today! He is VERY aware of him big brother Liam. Liam loves so give him "kissies" and cuddle. He is being a very nice big brother. I think they will be great friends when Lucas is able to return the affection.
He weighed n at 15.4 lbs (95%) and 23.25 inches long(75%).

Liam was Elmo's BIGGEST FAN!

We had a wonderful holiday season in Colombia. Every minute was full of family and travel. On one of our first days we fourwheeled around the hills and farms of Cogua, the Ospina's stomping ground. We spent Christmas in Bogota enjoying all the celebrationSS that preceded including Elmo :-). We then went to San Francisco with friends and relaxed in a country house surrounded by a beautiful little village and fruit trees. We then flew to the city of Medellin and explored this city in a valley of mountains. We then Celebrated New Years in Jardin, my favourite location so far. This is an enchanting little town embedded in layers of mountain chains at an altitude where life can be enjoy each and every day with ease. Its surrounded by manicured farms of everything from coffee to avocados, plantains, guava, mango, potatoes, and sugar cane! It was the perfect place to sit back and breath for a couple days before we returned to Bogota and then The US.
Liam, I believe, had the most fun! He loved all his cousins. He played and laughed and played and laughed! He had millions of kisses for everyone as we said our good byes.
We hope to return soon AND for everyone to come visit us when the new little baby arrives :-)
The baby boy is doing well as far as we know without seeing him. He is very active and I am getting BIG! April 21st is coming FAST!!!

Liam in his house! Video time is very interactive. Liam and Abuelito took a little nap together Sometimes the forehead it the BEST napkin. Liam Liam .. he is so active. he loves being outside. in the morning he runs to the window and says ou ou ou ou ou ou or go go go go go go and points with viggor. He loves to fill his car with balls and pine cones and push it around the yard. He points out birds and squirrels and if he finds any debris in the yard that is not of the yard he will run it to us with an utoh! He is very clean. He doesn't like his hands dirty and when there is a little crumb or pebble on the floor he will also run it to us. He loves his books. Thank heavens! we were concerned there for a while. He will point out the chu chu, ball, balloon, car, water etc.. Its so much fun to read (point out) together. He carries them around and bring them to bed for us to share together. He says aqua, mama, dada (no papa), craka, gra (grape), buu (tooth brush), veo (video), ca, ou, go go go go go go, rif or do (dog), mor mor mor, boo boo (poopoo), gracia (gracias), thanku, patoe (zapatos/ shoes)and many more partial words. He helps with the dish washer and put groceries away. He really understands a lot and is eager to follow directions. He is a big big lover. kisses and hugs all the time. He loves to get into bed with us in the am and go back and forth with kisses and hugs :-) I love it! We bought him a potty chair a couple weeks ago. It has become a big hit. He pushes it all around, opening and closing the lid saying boo boo. Most of the time he poops he tells us and will go to the chair and sit down. of course its after the fact, but we still cheer and will take his pants off and put the poop in the potty, then go together to the big toilet and dump it. He get so excited and will keep checking the toilet after we flush. I don't know how to advance past this stage. he really cant take off his own clothes and I don't know how to tell him to tell us FIRST. So, now we'll just keep cheering and dumping until we all know what to do. And it is a pain sometimes... if we're out and there is no potty or there isn't the space to all work together ands share in the popoo event, it's difficult. Do people just stay home during potty training or carry a toilet around? Food... Liam is a big eater.. yes, crackers are a favorite. I struggle not to feed him the sames things each day. when he's hungry hes want to eat right away. I end up preparing things on the fly.. nuggets, sausage, eggs, sliced fruit,pasta, and cheese cheeses cheese. We don't really eat Liam friendly foods so, I always have to prepare him something special. He won't eat veggies unless they are pureed, except fried okra. He loves to hide under the crib and behind his rocker. when we're dressing in the am he always runs away and hides in our closet or bath. when I find him he busts out laughing and runs again. Though its very fun, it is a challenge when we're in a hurry :-) He loves his "te'te'" (pacifier ) and usually likes to have two at once. Though we do restrict this to around bed time or car emergencies. He doenst have any other lovey. Maybe his sippy cup of water .. he drinks a lot of water and carries it every where. One challenge ... he has just started biting when he's excited or frustrated. UGH! He bit the little girl he plays with at the babysitters twice. I felt horrible. Ive read about it.. its a phase I guess. I dont want to ignore it or punish him. right now we just try to read the signs before it happens and intercept.. hmmm In these pictures he is playing inhis house. I paitned this for him a couple weeks ago. I loves to be inside. He doesnt want anyone in with him! Its his special place. He'll go to the windows and yell out. We play with puppets and peekaboo throught the windows and give kisses through the peek holes in the door. Its SO much fun!!! CLICK for Liam Video in his house

Liam is having a tons of fun in his new home. Each day he becomes more and more like a little boy rather than a little toddler. We are enjoying each minute together. OOXOXOX

Here we are in our new home! We are finally out of the hotel and are beginning to find normalcy in our "new country" of South Carolina! We still don’t have a couch or kitchen table, but we've settled in with what we do have and are very very happy. Liam loves all the space to run around. He loves to go up and down the stairs and drop things off the balcony. He has a huge bedroom and many open spaces to play, play, and play. He has adjusted to his new life quite well :-)

Juan Carlos and I are also adjusting to SC also. Juan Carlos is really enjoying the challenge of his new company and I began to sub last week. In turn I encountered 2 job offers and have accepted one that will begin next week. Its only 20 hours a week, but I'll be the Director at a middle school of a non profit organization, Communities In Schools. Liam has a great caregiver. Her daughter is a almost two years old. The two of them have a lot of fun together. It turns out that Liam has made his first South Carolina friend before us!

SOUTH CAROLINA!

Here we are! South Carolina!! Liam has been having a blast living in the hotel and exploring all the new places. He had his first play in the Atlantic Ocean today! He's being a little trouper with all these changes. He has adjusted to sleeping in the hotel in a crib right next to us and eating in all sorts of strange "highchairs." We still aren't settled yet, obviously.:-) We are hoping to have a home to call our this weekend. Until then we are exploring our new turf and trying to create livable play spaces in our hotel space. Until then, Juan Carlos and I will continue to have our after bed time conversations and watch TV hiding on the floor behind the bed and Liam will continue to find entertainment in the most unconventional places.

We'll keep you all posted on our developments.
We'd love to hear from and see you all. We are really missing our home, but with each day we are more getting acquainted with our new place.

ONE YEAR OLD!!!!!

WOW! We can not believe an entire year has past. So much has changed in our lives. Liam has gone from a helpless beautiful baby to a busy little toddler with his own agenda. He's older, wiser, and absolutely cuter. He has 8 teeth and will eat just about anything with them. He really prefers to feed himself.

He took his first steps on the 6th of October and worked at walking all month long. On November 1st he became an actual walker! He walked the entire day! He has been getting better and better each day. He has left crawling in the dust :-) Now he has an entirely new view on life. He loves to walk around swinging things around in each hand. We had a little party for him at home where he played with his new very cool toys and had fun with a couple friends. We actually spent his birth-day in Charleston, South Carolina. He really loves being out in new places and being the center of attention from all the passers by. There is no doubt, Liam is very very social! We are having so much fun with him. I'm sure he will continue amaze and entertain us in this next year and all that follow :-)

11 MONTHS!!! Almost ONE year!!!!

One more month to go before our little baby turns into a toddler. Its hard to believe he is changing so fast. This month he started three more teeth. He now has seven, but two are very small still. He has been extremely vocal and active this month. He very clearly says mama when he wants something and when I arrive to pick him up. He also says dada a lot, but I think it has many meanings. :-) He has all sorts of sounds. Sometimes it seems he is having a conversation in a new language. He is also standing, but only when he needs to do something that takes two hands, like clap. He also LOVES to walk around while holding our fingers. I think he is so excited about moving about that he doesn’t have the patience to take his own slow steps. Its just not an efficient method of travel at this time.

This month we brought Liam to the Zoo, a parade, the community pool, and a pumpkin patch. He loves being out where he can meet new people and see new things. He is crazy about getting the attention of strangers with a big smile and his wide mouth laugh. He loved the animals and all the sounds at the parade. The pool was a blast. He was scared at first, but once he saw a ball to play with he totally forget there was any danger.

Every month has been even more amazing than the one before. Its hard to believe this is the last of the first year of our life with Liam.

10 MONTHS!!!

HI everyone!
Liam is 10 months! He is leaving infancy and becoming a little boy with his own interests and need for Independence. He loves to feed himself everything. He is getting really good at walking around with anything he can push. He has begun to stand with out support, but I dont think he realizes it. He becomes engrossed in what is in his hands and forgets to hold on. :-) He has also mastered the stairs, which is great since we don't have stairs in our house. He is so strong, he just loves to climb whenever he gets the chance.

He also has become VERY vocal! He says mama and all sorts of other things we can't quite make out yet. He also says dada, but we're not too sure he knows its meaning.

This month we went to New Hampshire and met many many new family members. Liam was not shy at all. He was all over the place playing with his new friends. He is very aggressive at making eye contact with people and then smiling. Everywhere we went Liam was looking around at the people and laughing when they responded.

Liam is a joy for us every day! He is growing up so fast. We are really happy he has had the chance to meet so much of his family and spend so much time with his grandmas!

NINE Months! Nuevo Meses!

Hola Familia y Amigos!
Liam has had another month of rapid changes!
He is very quick with his crawling. The "slap slap slap" of his hands as his comes searching for me down the hall is hilarious. He is pulls himself up whenever he has a chance. This is his favorite thing to do in his crib when its time to go to sleep. :-)

He also is getting really comfortable with walking with his little push cart. You'll see his first few steps in the video here. It seems as soon as he figures out his balance he'll be off and running. Right now he is very independent. He goes all over the house in search of the unknown. He is fearless!

We have been planning for Liam to start some daycare in the fall when I go back to work. So, I have been observing daycare centers. While I meet with the teachers I let him explore. Once I put him down he is OFF! He loves the other kids and all the new things to discover. He always wants to stay longer!

He also waves bye bye and is full of babble babble babble. He has a lot of words just about to come out!

In the pictures you'll see he had his first camping trip. We all went to Crater Lake National Park. He was a jewel. Mom and dad didn’t sleep very well, but Liam was a happy little camper. He also experienced his first movie in the theater (Sicko, great flick!) and his first outdoor concert and the zoo.

He had his nine month check up Friday. He weighs 24 lbs and is 30 inches!

8 MONTHS

Liam is a wild little boy. He is crawlig all over the house and pulling himself up on anything that will let him. He is crazy about standing, though I dont think he knows how to get down from his new position. Liam has even become comfortable at going around the house on his own. He explores our three bedrooms endlessly getting into everything. Needless to say we have to be VERY careful about anything we may leave around.

Gramma came to visit this month. We went to the beach and did a little touring around our great state of Oregon. Check out the video of Liam and Gramma dancing in the woods. :-) We had so much fun!

Liam is changing so quickly! This month he has begun to use his thumb and index finger to pick things up. He practices this skill with bananas, avocados and other delicious fruit. I've begun to make some of his baby foods. Its hit or miss whether he'll eat it or not. So far he loves the fruits, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal. He has also just begun sleeping in his own crib, in his own room! He seemed to adjust without no problems.

We hope you all are doing well and enjoying the onset of summer heat. I am busy with summer classes and JuanCarlos is tackling some big projects at work. We hope to get in some camping and a tip to Crater Lake before the summer's end.

7 Months

Hi everyone! I am SEVEN MONTHS old today!! This has been a big month for me. We celebrated Mothers' Day, my grandparents came to see me, and my aunt and uncle came with Gabi my new cousin. I love it when my family comes to visit!

This month I graduated into the big boy car seat. I still face backwards, which doesn’t seem to bother me yet. But I became much too big for my old seat. I must be over 23lbs now!. I have been trying to stand, but my feet are still a little unsure how to hold me. I have been working on crawling all month and today I finally did it!! If I don’t crawl I can push myself around the room to defiantly get to any available shiny objects or moms cell phone unless someone stops me.

I also have learned to love music! I love to play the piano and rock on my bum to my CDs. I also like to dance with my mom or dad. I get so excited I clap and squeal! My parents learned that I love to play peek-a-boo especially when they hide below the bed and pop up. I laugh and laugh and laugh.

OH, I also have been having fun with my playgroup friends! Thats me with my girlfriend Megan in the picture above. We meet every week to play while our moms visit and talk about baby stuff.

HOLA. This month my first TOOTH surfaced. I didn’t even complain, though I did drool a lot. My second tooth is starting to poke through as well. I am changing so much each week. I am so strong that my dad can pull me around the living room when I’m sitting straight up. I also like to stand while holding my mom or dads hands. This way I can look around and see all the things I'll want to grab and put in my mouth. I like to have many toys around me at one time so I can pick them up and drop them constantly.

My mommy has been bringing me out into the yard on nice days to play with my maracas and enjoy the grass and flowers. I love the outdoors. I especially like to taste the grass. When I went to the Dr two weeks ago I weighted almost 22 lbs. WOW, the charts say I could be 9 months old. I dont think thats from eating grass.

Today on my 6th month birthday my mom and dad fed me my first "real" meal. I ate almost 1 oz of sweet potatoes. I really liked them. Next week I may even try peas :-) I am becoming a little boy so fast. I think my parents are going to miss me being a baby.

Switzerland and Germany

We met up with Andres (JC's friend from Colombia) on the border of Switzerland and we toured around his new country. Liam had his first taste of chocolate (this is in the picture) and we visited Bern, Zurich, Lucerne, and of course, Basel. We also touched on the massive wintry Alps. WE then rented a LITTLE car and drove into Germany and explored the home of Hansel & Gretel, The Black Forest.

PARIS PARIS!

Bon Jour! We did Paris! Via foot and metro we visited all the important sights, monuments, and museums. We loved Paris! Liam napped, nursed, and had his cute little diaper changed all over the city. He is a great little traveler. Plaase click on the blank square to see our Paris album.

We had a great time in France! We visited with Phillip in Avignon and toured around the south of France with him. He also showed us around his home city of Lyon, which is a very cool city! We then took the train to Belfort to see Vicky, Andres, Sofia, and Monica. They showed us around Belfort and cities north. Liam had a great time getting to know his cousin, Sofia. It was very cold! Liam was happy to bundle up in Sofia's Stoller. When Monica flew back to Spain we went into Switzerland and met the othe Andres. :-) CLICK on the blank square to view the France photo album.

Liam 4 Months

Hi everyone!
Here is a little update on our sweet Liams 4th month of being on the outside :-)
I cant belive how fast he is growing and changing. He is so strong and alert to everything around him. He watches strangers when we are out like they mystical beings. He'll smile and laugh with anyone interested in giving him a little show. He really has a beautiful personality. He doest cry unless there is something wrong. And so far we're not strugging to figure ourt how we can help.
He has very strong legs and can hold himself up with ease. He's not rolling yet, though he does get his cute little bum in the air like he was about to crawl away. He is loving his toys now. Everything goes in his mouth, sometimes both hands! He is a big talker too. I havent the translation for what he is saying, but it sure must be amzing stuff because he'll go on razzing and make all sorts of sounds for a long time. He loves is Baby Tad and anything that lights and blinks. We are all going to Europe in a couple days for the remainder of the month. We're hoping he can pick up some French while we are there and maybe a little Italian. Our little boy is going to be a world traveler before he's one!

Liam 3 Months

HI Everyone,
Here he is at 3 months! !
Time is going so quickly! Everyday is something new with Liam. just the other day he started arching his back when he wants to be picked up. He is all full of words and slobbery babble. I actually think he likes the sensation of dribble and bubbles:) He can sit up on his own with pillows and hold his dignity. AND he really seems to love sitting up in the stroller and watching things pass as we stroll along. He is finished with the sky view only !
He is still very social when strangers talk with him, laughing and smiling. He seems to love to watch people move about the room. One thing we have noticed is his LOVE for the TV or computer screen. In any position in my arms, his bouncy chair, or on the blanket he will crank his head around to see whats happening on the screen. he can be having a crazy fit and if he catches the TV lights he will pause, just long enough for me to notice and turn it off. We have just discovered Baby Tad. he/she in a big frog that blinks and sings. Liam seems to love it. I hope this will be as powerful as the TV. He does seem to enjoy books too. Ive been reading The Big Red Barn. it has lots of colors and animal sounds. Its amazing, he will watch the pages as I read as though he were following along... HE'S A GENIUS! I have also been reading my text material for my class, which has no pictures. He is learning about theories of adult development and learning. At this rate he'll have his masters before he's two, though Im not sure if he'll be able to distinguish it from The Big Red Barn!

Liam 2 Months

HI all,
We just returned from an amazing holiday trip to Colombia. Liam and I met layers of our Colombian family and friends and we traveled around the beautiful mountainous land. Liam is turning out to be quite an agreeable little traveler. He was wide eyed taking in his new world or sleeping soundly as we moved along.
He is grasping things and laughing and smiling. Its amazing how quickly he is growing. When we left he wasn't interested in his swing or hanging objects. NOW, he is reaching out for the birds on his swing and his eyes fix on the lights and moving objects. Hes way into the 3-6 month clothing. It seems he has doubled in size in the past 2 weeks!

Happy One Month to Liam!!
He is growing so so fast! He is already into his 3 month clothes! He is also really strong, especially when he is having an experience of frustration. Those legs of his are tough! When he's playing he is able to lay on his belly lift his head and turn side to side. He follows us with his eyes and smiles. Every day is so different. I am realizing how fast this little boy will grow up and out of our arms before we know it.

Liam 5 months

Liam is five months old today! This past month we spent the majority of our days in Europe. Liam proved to be a little traveler of the greatest quality. He has napped, eaten, and been naked in historic churches, museums, and beautiful European landscapes across France, Switzerland, the BlackForest of Germany and Rome.
He is changing every day. He is very comfortable sitting up on his own and reaching for his surroundings toys. He likes to have them all on his lap. Each toy seems to have an entertainment value of about 30 seconds if there is a new toy in reach. Everything goes into his mouth, including our faces! He especially loves his toes. Unfortunately he is a little too chubby to get a good mouth full with the diaper on, but once he is naked in go the toes! He also has very strong legs. He really likes to stand while holding our fingers. There are so many changes and they are happening so fast! We are both really loving every moment with Liam. He's a perfect baby! (do all parents say this?)

As Liam grows and spring arrives we are also adding things to our busy lives. I am taking a class at night towards my masters and have begun to substitute two days a week. Liam started to go to a baby sitter just this week for the two days. He doesnt seem to mind. :-) So far we are real happy with her. Her philosophy with children is much the same as ours and she has a lot of great energy.

So much happens in one month!

We have just surfaced and are leaving the hospital today. Its Tuesday. We went in for an induction on Thursday. .....After many hours of inconceivable pain, gallons of pain killers, and 3 hours of pushing our little perfect Liam Sebastian Ospina was born 4:15 am Sunday via C Section. @ 9 lb 10 oz he had out grown his safe little home and couldnt use the normal exit. He is healthy and strong! Perfection takes a lot f work I guess :-)
